Markets in everything
Chessboxing has a convivial party atmosphere and is far more female friendly than a normal boxing crowd, with 40% of tickets purchased by ladies.
Here is more, with the subheader Swedish Chessboxing Sensation in London. About a year ago, five or so people sent me links about chessboxing for "Markets in Everything." I didn't think it was weird enough to merit inclusion in the series. But now, with the addition of "Swedish" and "ladies" to the mix (or is it the "convivial party atmosphere"?), I think it is weird enough. Here is Wikipedia on chessboxing.

My wife and I had lunch several years ago with the European champion, Bulgarian Tihomir "The Tiger" Dovramadjiev (my wife is Bulgarian and he is from her home town, Varna). Tihomir is an extremely nice guy, quite reserved, and obviously intelligent. If I remember correctly, he was a chess expert first, then decided to get into boxing.
Anyway, such a combination is nothing new - boxing has always been a part of hockey!

I can't believe someone took that Wu-Tang Clan song and decided to make a real sport out of it!

I like the Dortmund Chess Tournament. But German TV doesnt show chess anymore. You can only watch game with chessbase.
