The iPod Nano index
You'll find it here. It seems that Australia has the cheapest iPod, followed by Indonesia and Canada. Argentina has the most expensive iPod, even though it is generally a very cheap country. These figures are listed as from October 2008, but I wonder if Iceland still has the sixth most expensive iPod Nano?
I thank John De Palma for the pointer.

You mean I don't have to travel across the border and buy my iPod Nano in Detroit? Wonderful news.

Orbitz lists Sydney to Buenos Aires round-trip at 3,000 USD.

better arbitrage opportunity: Santiago - Buenos Aires. Or if you don't want to risk South American prisons, try Belgium - Poland.

Argentina has very high import duties and a 21% value added tax. That alone can explain the high Ipod price. I don't think I need to tell you that if you ever visit Argentina you shouldn't go shopping for high end electronics... just stick to eating steak.

In Angola its somewhat short of $500. Not surprising given other prices (Tomato 1kg - $12, monthly rent for somewhat decent place - nothing you'd live in normally $4,000, Nike swimming trunks $110, average taxi ride if you manage to get a taxi $50, Gasoline $0.5/gallon) Go figure. At least I don't need to buy I Pod here.

I paid 1999 pesos when the mxp was at 13.5 so I paid about 148 bucks us for that sucker.

Hi there.
I just called the apple store in Iceland, and they are selling it at 29.900 ISK, which is probably around 230$ at the moment, dropping us a little bit lower on the list. :)
However, they are probably still selling items bought before the crash. This price will probably rise considerably in the next months. ;)

Since apple does not typically change the price of its retail products (until it introduces replacements) the Canadian price in USD at any time is a factor of teh change in the FX rate since the price was set. The exchange rate was probably .95 when the product came out, and was probably close to .8 for this survey. In fact, products introduced when the CAD was above the USD were still more expensive in Canada.

The Australian dollar has dropped a lot recently. That might explain a lot.
