Find it here. One of my favorite moments of the London trip was when Alex, in a luncheon full of highly intelligent British people, referred to "the wisdom of crowds." There was a brief moment of silence. Then one such Brit cleared his throat and corrected him to the notion of "wisdom *for* crowds"...

What the hell is "wisdom for crowds?" Were they just making something up? It gets a google count of zero.
Is this a statement about how English people fall back on top-down administrative prejudices when they're confronted with something they've never heard of?

@Lee, sadly the New Yorker's blog section drives me mad. For the longest while I couldn't find how to subscribe to individual blogs instead of a site wide digest.
Not that the nyt is much better. It really sucks to click just to see the extra three words ommitted from a short post.

Huh? I've lived in the UK for almost a decade now, and I currently work at a London university full of highly intelligent people, for what that's worth. I have never heard someone use the word "for" in this way.

"wisdom for crowds" can come directly by using the method desribed as "wisdom of crowds" to obtain one level of risk mitigation in certain decisions.

All of them spouted by politicians of two main types: (1) those campaigning for office and (2) those holding office.
Wisdom for crowds means that 51% know what they need to know to elect me!
