The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics

An overview is here, the list of contributors is very prestigious (disclaimer: I wrote the article on the social discount rate), and the Palgrave name is golden.  The old Palgrave Dictionary of Political Economy still makes for fascinating browsing.  Yet the price tag for the new edition is over $2000, $2500 on Amazon.

Not everyone is good at using Google and Wikipedia.

I prefer Palgrave's Golden Treasury of Verse ;=).

This was also the single favourite book of both Robert Frost and the well-loved English poet laureate John Betjeman - (1906 – 1984).

Do you think it's so expensive only because the only parties that tend to buy it are institutions/ universities/libraries etc. and not individuals? If it cost half as much, the only ones purchasing it would still be universities and not individuals.

Sounds like some people need to read the article on price discrimination.

I wonder if there is a concise version.

I wish their online edition had a list of subscribing libraries, or "locate a copy at a library near me" button.
