Dear Tyler Cowen, dear Alex Tabarrok, I'm afraid my comment has little to do with Tim Hardford's book... well: it has something to do with the problem of irrational human behaviours.
I indeed have a problem that I think only brilliant thinkers like you can resolve (enough for the flattery.) In my university (Lyon –France), the coffee machines offer the choice between two types of coffee: Lavazza coffee costs 40 eurocents and Nescafe coffee costs 35 eurocents. EVERYBODY I know (myself included) chooses the 40 eurocent coffee. I once tested the 35 eurocents coffee: it has roughly the same taste (quite bad –you only drink that sort of coffee for the caffeine.) WHY, WHY do we all choose the 40 eurocents coffee? What is the motive for this irrational choice? Is it just because nobody wants to carry ugly 5 cents coins in their pockets (these are dirty copper coins, while 10 cents coins are much nicer)? By choosing the 35 cents coffee, you can save up to 20 euros a year, if you drink coffee everyday.
My main question is: why has Lavazza accepted such a tough competition (the two buttons are less that 20 cm apart)? Is it because they knew it would all turn out to their profit?
If you want to do further research, I unfortunately cannot afford to pay the plane tickets, but I can offer you a place to stay and some food to eat.
Sincerely yours,
Y.D.

(PS: bravo for your blog, i read it everyday and it makes my life better.)

It would be nice if you can give us more advance notice of the reading schedule, (like a syllabus perhaps?) so we can plan accordingly.

We're planning on a chapter about every three or four days...
