I just finished the book last night.
My prediction: the chapter on race (I believe it is the second-to-last chapter) will provoke the most discussion. I certainly had trouble sleeping after reading it.

I have to say I'm not pleased with these book forums discriminating against people who don't live in the US. I couldn't get A Farewell to Arms before the whole shebang was over and the same is true with this book. Amazon gives me an estimated delivery date of 30th Jan - and I preordered over a month ago.
It's anti-Europeanism's what it is. Why do you hate us?

I agree-I'd have to pay $55 to get the book by the last day of January. As it happens, I'll probably get it mid-February for something close to the nominal (German) price.
Don't put any spoilers above the fold, at least.

I still can't find a copy of A Farewell to Alms here in India. But I was very happy to see Dr. Cowen's latest in the bookstore today.

For any Australians out there, I found a copy in Borders a few days ago, which surprised me. Usually we would have to wait about 15 years for it to come. I don't believe Tyler's book is out here yet (if it ever will be). I had to order it online.

According to the book description: "an ambitious new breed of economist is trying to unlock the secrets of society". Please tell the publisher that serious economists have been trying to do that for centuries with little success (you can read "Economics: A Very Short Introduction" by P. Dasgupta, OUP 2007, to understand where we are). From Tim Harford's message to Amazon readers I conclude that he even doesn't bother to look at society; he just looks at how incentives affect individual behavior.

I'm looking forward to the forum; the book arrived yesterday from Amazon UK and so far it's on par with The Undercover Economist.

I come from Sweden and I had no trouble getting either Farewell to alms or this book in time.

Well it depends whether you want to pay double to have it shipped by air. I don't. Or did you have some other way? Please tell.

We are living in a time where we are just starting to understand the truths behind who we are and why we do what we do. I think it is exciting. Also it is confronting, and the resistance most people have to reality is powerful! Go Tim!
