I don't know anyone who really knows anything about health care who believes that the VA is a better healthcare system.
They provide limited services to a limited population and generally provide services only to those with proximity to care (VA facilities are built largely based on Congressional politics).
Most of the discussion on healthcare reform comes from those who know very little about healthcare.

It would be interesting to compare health care for people, which is largely paid-for by relatively disinterested third parties (insurance), with health care for animals, which is largely paid-for as a fee-for-service by loving caretakers (owners). Anybody willing to bet, a priori, which gives better results?
