Incentives
When I come to my office, I take my sweater off. When I go home, I put my sweater back on.

I hope that's the product of an economic agreement rather than an emotional disagreement with your wife!

You're spending too much time with Tyler.

Solution: I don't have to pay for the heat in the office, but I have to pay for it at home.

Robert Olson understands incentives!

Alex_Tabarrok: Your post has a mistake. You forgot to end it with a second paragraph that says:
"Think about it."
Posted by: Person at Dec 21, 2007 12:47:13 PM
you did not think about it?
Posted by: Jaime Bascuñán at Dec 21, 2007 1:25:37 PM
Alex should turn off the air conditioner at home. :-)

When I rent cars, I race them backwards, do donuts, yank the e-brake randomly, and hit speed bumps as fast as I can.

I always find it funny when I visit the home of people who are "just getting by" (financially speaking) and their thermostat is set at 76 deg. F. These are the same types of people who are asking for mortgage bailouts right now. I couldn't feel less bad for them.

Yes, they all had it coming. Greedy bastards.
Meanwhile the average MLB salary is about $3M per season. Nothing wrong with this country's priorities at all.

Are there any books of problems like this?

It's a US peculiarity to heat the indoors to over 72 in winter and cool them below 66 in summer. I know of no other country where this is done. It's not only uncomfortable but also incredibly wasteful.

Or your wife bought you the sweater.

Was this inspired by the Two Cult Koans?

Canada does the 66/72 mix, summer and winter. My family does 27 Celsius in the summer and 19 in the winter though. That's rare in Canada, and perhaps among the reasons we're not "just getting by".

ah...see...I'd thought it was a modified version. You took off the sweater at the office (while it's cold) because you're forcing yourself to get out of there sooner to get back home. I didn't see the sweater as being worn at home, but more of a treat at the end of the day.
Still an incentive...but an incentive to not overwork, especially during the holidays.

incentive to the employee at work (sexy assistants at work),
high temprature at office(so that that assistant can wear minis..nd expose off)
low teprature at home(as it used to be high earlier in the initial days)
and the employer understands.
