Best of 2007 lists

Here are the links to the lists, again courtesy of the awesome Rex Sorgatz.  Last year this link cost me a good $200.  Rex adds more to the list as the links pop up, so do revisit the site periodically.  Oddly I can't get this link to work on every computer or browser, I am not sure why not.  Thanks to Jason Kottke for the pointer.

I'm especially pleased with the Top Gay Cars, especially the Top Lesbian Moving Van.

How did this link cost you $200 last year?

I assumed it was $200 in bandwidth from all the hits he got.

I am also curious about the 200 dollars. I interpreted the statement as "I bought some of the goods listed there for the amount of 200$".

Yet, this is implausible. First, some of the things listed there are expensive and Tyler often buys books and CDs for amounts larger than that (I guess, from his comments). The second reason would be that if Tyler spends 200$ on goods, he would describe this as a cost. It would lack sophisticatication.

My bet: Tyler saw the list, liked some of the goods and decided to try others. So he decided to purchase some, because he found that the list an indicator of quality and a challenge to try new things. He spent an amount X. After that, he got value Y from reading, listening, riding, eating, etc. the goods he bought. The opportunity cost of the time and money spent on these activities was Z. Took all this into consideration and found that net result was -200$.

"Oddly I can't get this link to work on every computer or browser"

That's weird, I've never heard that before. Can you tell me what browser fails? Thanks!

Oddly I can't get this link to work on every computer or browser, I am not sure why not.

For one thing, you don't own my computer.

Tyler, love the link but I was quite disappointed there was no list for the top econ books of 2007. loved Caplan's "myth of the rational voter" and Ian Ayres' "super crunchers" but i think all us loyal MR readers would enjoy your list of 10 to 20 economics books of 2007. as a college student i am struggling to think of gifts other than contributions to a Roth IRA and I'd like to know your thoughts on worthwhile reads.

P.S. You should definitely recommend Super Crunchers as it is not only a great read as Ian Ayres and Orley Ashenfelter (prominent economics professor) respond to readers' questions quickly and provide insightful questions to any issues you may have.
