Bookforum update
You may recall that we are having the first MarginalRevolution BookForum on Greg Clark's A Farewell to Alms: A Brief Economic History of the World. Here is my previous post on the book and how the forum will work. It's a great book and I recommend it highly.
Orders from loyal MR readers have been very strong, and many (all?) of you are receiving emails from Amazon.com about publication delays for the book. The publisher assures me that they are working hard to fill all orders in a timely fashion and the final delay is likely to be a slight one rather than a long one into October. Early September is looking like the time we will start discussing the book. But I'll keep you posted as we hear more...

I received my book very quickly. No delays here.

Amazon delayed the shipment, but I just received notice that it had been sent today.

I ordered mine late last week and Amazon says it will ship soon, and I should get it between the 13th and 15th. I ordered with Tylers book and it already shipped.

My book just arrived today.

I ordered mine about 2 weeks ago and it says I will receive the book in mid October, so hopefully it will be significantly sooner than that.

This morning I received shipping notice for DYIE but not Farewell to Alms.
(My recommendations now reads: Chamber Music - Classics - Computers & Internet- Contemporary Culture - Dick, Philip K. - Economic History - Genetics - Hard-Boiled - Instructional Design - History of Science - Computers - Military Science - Mutter, Anne-Sophie - Neuroscience - Political etc. etc. I look positively schizophrenic.)

Or you have moderately broad interests.

I decided that I would not wait for my order to arrive in mid-October so I canceled mine. :(

Mid-October for some of you?
Hmm... I wonder if I could turn a profit by selling my copy on eBay. :) It's not like I'm likely to get around to reading it before mid-October (sorry, Tyler) anyway...

Christopher: It appears to be available immediately from bn.com for 24 dollars plus shipping (ie about 4 more than amazon.) I've ordered from Amazon and am in the mid-October camp, but I presume they'll send it out sooner: Amazon are quoting a 1 to 3 week delivery date if you order now.

It's not unusual for Amazon.com to estimate a very conservative delivery date following the principal of always under promising and over delivering.
As soon as they get books delivered from the publisher the delivery date quickly moves up. Don't cancel your order. Be patient and it will show up like magic.

Amazon e-mailed me that the expected ship date is Oct. 4-6, although it could
ship in September, if the book is released then.

Just got my notice that the book shipped.

I found Strand of NYC had the cheapest price, and I received my copy on Friday the 3rd. So no complaints here.
