I think the ban is on reincarnation in China without government permission. This reminds me of the presentation on federalism you posted awhile ago, where you mentioned a ban on prostitution in one state would lead to the export of prostitution to another. China's ban may have a similar effect, but a much more spiritual export.

Female faces video: so soothing!

As the article points out, there are some insidious public choice issues behind China's ban. Read some of my thoughts on this here and more on China's recent crackdown on religious freedom. I remain confused about why libertarians aren't more concerned about violations of religious liberty?

The modern paintings were disgusting. Almost like they hated women. Except they painted everything that way.

The 500 Female Faces video wasn't nearly as cool as I thought it would be. Probably my ignorance...

500 years female faces wonderful, except the modern ones.I liked that painting of a lady with a blue scarf on her head.
Is there any book explaining female psychology in a historical perspective?.How did ancient women think and behave? Was it different from the present? How history, culture, traditions, patriarchal domination etc shape female mind?

I wonderred if there was a trend in the shapes of the faces over time? It seemed as though there might be. The faces of women from other cultures (nonEuropean) did not seem to fit into the pattern of change. This might reflect either the artist capturing the shape accurately or layering some expectations over what they were seeing. My first reaction was that the faces became tauter over time with more definition of the muscles aroung the hinge of the jaw and around the eyes. The result seemed to be a more assertive and confident gaze. Perhaps more masculine in a way? Could this be a temporal version of cultural differences in face shapes?

There was a uniform pattern of "nose" -all long ones.

I noticed the noses as well. All relatively long and beautifully straight. That might raise some questions about the representativeness of the sample or representation, but there seemed to be something in addition to that as well.
