That's crazy! Look at all the space you could put books in, utterly wasted!

Neither "cozy" nor "claustrophobic" as the post itself suggests. But instead, it's a waste of bookshelf space and also just a bad idea since you'll have to come out every time you want a book. (There really should be a way to get a book without having to come out of the damned thing!)
But interesting, nevertheless.. :)

This was in the NY Times about 2 weeks ago... if you run a search you can probably find the article on this bookshelf.

Strike that, clicking through once or twice takes you to the NY Times article.

I already see a market for reading caves for taller people.

The picture shows the lady with shoes sitting inside a book-cave and in India book is considered as sacred, goddess of learnig and knowledge herself and it is a sin to keep shoes and books together.East is east and west is west and never the two shall meet.

Sure, it wastes bookshelf space. But it saves seating space, allowing you to double up the bookshelves.

While I'm a little overweight, I'm not particularly wide. A chair that is comfortable for me to sit in is far wider than a practical bookshelf is deep. Unless that shelf is split in the middle, and sticks out into the middle of the room, it would hide far too many books to be useful.

she has silver shoes.

Silver shoes, and what appears to be lots of copies of the same book. I didn't realize that "Reflections of a Public Man" had been re-released with a pink cover.
