Sexual emulation and rivalry

Researchers have shown women rate a man as more attractive after they’ve seen another woman smiling at him. By contrast, being a jealous bunch, male observers rate a man as less attractive after they’ve seen a woman smiling at him.

That introductory clause of the second sentence is smarmy and PC.

After all, it's the women who look at other women's reaction to a man as a spur to try to make their own move. Doesn't that show that they're the ones who only want something once someone else has it? Both sexes are jealous, only in different ways.

Perhaps it would be more accurate to say men are jealous but women are envious.

This study doesn't actually establish any meaningful sex differences. To do that, they'd have to see how men & women rate a woman's attractiveness after they've seen a man smiling at her.
