Not much wackier than the treatments you'll find offered in western spas. "Products like mud, algae, or seaweed detoxify because they stimulate your blood circulation and lymphatic system." Yeah, sure, whatever.
And the risk of cancer from napthalene isn't much of an issue given that most of the bathers are smokers.

Oh and don't forget the "electric baths" they have in Japan. Those are weird.
I remember a friend of mine on a trip to Japan was offered a chance in one of them, to which she, horrified, replied "Denki...mizu...DAME!"

I once stayed in a hotle/spa just outside of Riga Latvia. The hotel offered a wide variety of 'treatments' at low prices. I offered to pay for any of my colleagues to have such treatments but no one was up for the 'under water seaweed massage', 'gynecological massage', 'mud tampon', or 'rectal mud tampon'. This is too bad since I would have liked to have known (but not first hand) what those things were.

"Pure crude oil"? Isn't that a bit of an oxymoron?

I think that this is a great idea. If you need profit then use what you have. They had crude oil and they found new ways to us it. We dont really know if it is safe, but their proverty is going away.
