The Queen
One of the few must-see movies of the year. In addition to its dramatic virtues and superb acting (read Matt's review), it offers economics, public choice, and political philosophy. The moviemakers appear to understand Thomas Schelling on focal points and convention, "showing that you care" theories of signaling, David Hume on public opinion, and Michael Oakeshott on tradition, among many other ideas.

I haven't seen this yet, so thanks for the recommendation. Stephen Frears is one of my all-time favourite directors, and he certainly does understand a lot of things. "Dirty Pretty Things" shows that he understands the dangers of black markets, "My Beautiful Laundrette" shows that he understands small businesses, an "Sammy and Rosie Get Laid", which is one of my top ten movies of all time, shows that he understands what Margaret Thatcher's free-market efforts did to some parts of Britain.

You saw Nietzschean values in Devil Wears Prada, and now you're seeing Michael Oakeshott in The Queen?
You got me to see Devil Wears Prada, and it really was surprisingly good. Now I'll have to see this too. The preview looks good.

I really do not understand all of the praise for this movie. Sure the acting was superb and the likeness was uncanny. However, the content has been examined ad nauseum, musings of royal and Blair reactions are unsubstantiated and overall the entire production is a yawner. Save your money and watch a documentary. The only thing I found vaguely redeeming was the implicit criticism of the British public's mourning of the death of a mentally imbalanced debutant.
The other kick in the ass was I left the movie feeling it had been financed in some way by Tony Blair.
