Markets in everything, Paris Hilton edition
Hilton also told the magazine she collects $500,000 in fees just to show up at parties and other events from Las Vegas to Tokyo. Her best-paying gig, she said, was a recent Austrian appearance.
"I had to say 'hi' and tell them why I loved Austria so much," she is quoted as saying.
And why does she like Austria? "Because they pay me $1 million to wave at crowds!"

The story posted tells about how her income is rising, but also indicates that she has announce that she is "not having sex for a year," because she is "sick of boyfriends" although she also announced that she has only had sex with two men in her life. Juxtaposing these, the economically minded has to wonder: is sex an inferior good in the case of Ms. Hilton?

Your series of posts 'Markets in everything' puzzles me.
To try to prove the point that there are markets in everything is frivolous. Of course there are. Their existence is empirically observable.
What I can't figure out is whether you believe that there are some markets which should not be indulged.
For example although the market for crystal meth will always have willing buyers and willing sellers, do you believe that the crystal meth market be deregulated by the repeal of the narcotics laws?
Or that your citizenship is an impediment to the operation of the labour market, and are you willing to give it up?
If so, I might be interested in buying...

Suppose there was a slight alteration of property rights and you could not force Ms. Hilton OUT of your house once she is in. I suppose in that case she could quite easily also earn a living by inducing people to pay for her to leave...

She may be nutty as the Jif in my cupboard, but I have to resepct Paris, she seems to have built a career (and if that report is true a fairly well paying one) even though she has demonstrated few talents and most people wouldn't put her all that high on a list of the worlds best looking people. I think that mind might be a little brighter than we all seem to give her credit for having.
