Interview: Skip Sauer

Yglesias' analysis, while interesting, is inconclusive at best. Dirk is famous for working hard on different facets of his game in the offseason (oftentimes with a former coach in Germany), so it is tough to say that he wouldn't have developed a post-up game had Nash stayed.
Further, coach Johnson played on a team with two excellent post players (David Robinson and Tim Duncan), a team that had a philosophy of slowing the game down and using post play. It is difficult to say he wouldn't have used this method even if Nash had remained a Maverick. I think the Mavericks would much rather have Steve Nash then Erick Dampier right now.

MC makes some good points.
The article has nothing to do with whether Nash is a worthy MVP or not, as the title lets on.
He starts by using some numbers to argue that Dallas isn't better defensively this year. Not even sure I buy that. They may have had fewer possesions because they were ahead more often. Even granting that point, it still seems like a rhetorical trick, using numbers to make one argument, but not the main argument of the piece.
The main argument of the piece, that Nash's spreading the ball around stunted Dirk's growth and hurt the Mav's, is all based on Y's personal opinion.
There's nothing original about the idea that getting a superstar in isolation and not letting other guys get in the way too much can be a winning strategy. I think Phil Jackson and Michaeal Jordan had that down.
The Mavs have some new guys, like Howard and Terry, who are pretty good.
