How to save commercials
Mark Cuban says make them live performances, for a new kind of reality TV:
...those are commercials that would keep peoples attention. You would never know exactly what would happen. 30 seconds of fun. Bring back the 50s to TV.

An entrepreneurial ad agency should create commercials in slow motion with subtitles.
That way when using DVR/Tivo to fast forward through the commercials,
the action and message is viewed in real-time.

Wonderful idea. I'm just old enough to remember Betty Furness being unable to open a Frigidaire refrigerator door, John Cameron Swayze losing his Timex Watch off an outboard motor in a vat of water, and Sonny Fox talking about peanuts as an elephant ripped off his jacket (in the pockets of which he had placed peanuts). Bring back the authentic TV of the Fifties!

Courtney--Slow motion is a terrific idea. It was tried by one of the better agencies. I think either Chiat/Day in LA or Crispin Porter + Bogusky in Miami. The networks disapproved and wouldn't air the commercial.
Actually, the solution is to make better commercials. BMW underwrote a series of 5-minute films all starring Clive Owen as a mysterious chauffeur who drives for people who are being chased. John Frankenheimer and Tony Scott were among the directors. The films weren't intended for broadcast, they were posted to BMW's web site.
