I was really saddened to hear this. I had just started getting into her work, reading the Parables Trilogy. She was an amazing author.

Her work was genuinely original and thought-provoking
in a way few things are. The world is a poorer place without her.

I have had a hard time finding words to express how I feel about Octavia Butler's death and what her work meant.

Octavia was a friend of mine for the past 35 years. Her passing away was absolutely devasting. On our Talk About Parenting with Shirlee Smith website you can view a past interview with her at 2:00 p.m. pst, Friday, March 17th and 2:00 a.m.pst, Saturday, March 18th.
